There are a few ancient Khmer empire archeological sites in eastern Thailand, with typical hindu temples, along the road from Angkor. We chose Phanom Rung, located on top of an inactive volcano, and Prasat Muang Tam in the valley below it.
Both I found very impressive, with nice designs carved on the walls and gates. The ticket was valid for both sites, the latter being basically empty when we arrived, for us to explore calmly. We then had a nice cheap lunch on the riverbank, in the shade under tall trees and good breeze.
