After cycling in Tam Coc, Vietnam around the canals and rice fields, we headed to Phong Nha with a night bus.
Phong Nha is a quite little town, base to the national park of many caves, including some of the biggest caves in the world.
We arrived early morning and managed to check-in early. However, our hotel was a bit distant from the main square, and also the only one to not provide free bicycles.
Choosing the right cave was an easy task for us, since some of them are very expensive to explore. The first one we entered, phong nha cave, starts with a motored canoe directly from the town center. Payment is made by boat, and we were lucky to have a group of vietnamese people just waiting to fill up their boat. Inside the cave the engine switches off and we enjoyed the river cave in silence.
For our second day, after resting well, we went to paradise cave, which was the most huge and very impressive stalactite cave I’d ever been to. Only the first kilometer is explorable with the normal entry ticket, easily walkable on wooden decks. There’s a short climb to the cave’s entrance though.
Food options were limited, but we found nice banh mi, and offered a tasty rice toast with random toppings. I also satisfied my grill crave with some spiced chicken and vegetables on a stick were we bought our bus tickets to Hue.
